Hi all,

I’m looking forward to DL14! Though it’s terribly belated, and I’ve been
lurking on this list and reading all of your interesting introductions, I
wanted to finally send in my own.

I am a photographer, urbanist and curator and am co-founder of Buscada
<http://buscada.com/>, an interdisciplinary practice on place and dialogue.
I teach in Urban Studies and Arts & Social Engagement at the New School -
and am also the Assoc. Director of Civic Engagement Initiatives here.

I’m both a scholar and an artist, and collaborate with both arts
institutions and community organizations in doing my work focusing on the
experience and politics of everyday place.

I am particularly interested in building new models for, and discussing
critical perspectives on, participation and collaboration in urbanist and
art projects. I am concerned with what kind of effort and labor this
participation entails on the part of communities and how this work is
valued and honored.

I thought deeply about this when my practice Buscada was creating our “Triangle
Fire Open Archive” <http://rememberthetrianglefire.org/open-archive/> and
am thinking now about querying how we spend our own time - as at Buscada
we’ve just created a (possibly paradoxical) app for mindfulness called
“168.” <http://buscada.com/168/>

I’ll be participating in the long table on Friday morning on Research and
Practice on Feminist / Feminized Digital Labor, and look forward to the
whole conference!

All the best,
Gabrielle
