Hello everyone,
I haven't gone through all the responses re Info Vis resources (so there may be some redundancy in the following), but here are more places to explore for texts and visuals:
Martin Dodge, Atlas of Cyberspaces (still a good survey of work):
http://personalpages.manchester.ac.uk/staff/m.dodge/cybergeography/atlas/atlas.html
http://www.kitchin.org/atlas/
Victoria Vesna, Database Aesthetics
http://www.upress.umn.edu/Books/V/vesna_database.html
InfoVis
http://www.infovis.org/
Martin Wattenberg's lab at IBM (poke around for publications etc.:)
http://www.research.ibm.com/visual/projects.html
All best,
C.

Hi Lilly,
You might look at some of the stuff on TacticalTech.org, in
particularly the nifty handbook they've created:
http://www.tacticaltech.org/infodesign
I'd also take a look at Rita Raley's book on Tactical Media (I imagine
you've already picked her brain). But if you haven't read her book...
it is a fine accomplishment and well worth the time.
Again, if you haven't already, take a look at some of the stuff on Lev
Manovich's page: http://www.manovich.net/culturevis_resources.html
You also do well to look at some of the work that Jeremy Douglass is
doing (in this case, with Manovich):

Dear -lilly
for an approach liked by US NSF, check the work of my colleague Katy
Boener (Boner) at the Indiana University School of Library and
Information Science.

One excellent book is Martin Dodge and Rob Kitchin, Atlas of Cyberspace -
2001, but absolutely amazing. Dodge has charged the Net for years and
years.
