Following on Trebor's note, I'll share the reading list for my course at 
the University of North Carolina's School of Information and Library 
Science, entitled "Online Social Networks."

In this class, we're going to spend requisite time exploring social 
networking sites, but the larger theme of the course is an exploration of 
online identity and the dynamics of information flow in online social 
spaces.
