Hello everyone

I'll be participating in the Architecture and Situated Technologies
Symposium and although I recognise a few names on the list, I just
wanted to take a minute to introduce myself.

For the past five years I've been studying for my PhD in sociology and
anthropology at Carleton University in Ottawa, and I'm currently in the
throes of writing it all up for examination later this year. Drawing on
critical cultural theories and social studies of science and technology,
my project focusses on pervasive computing and locative media in urban
contexts.

More specifically, it looks at the development and design processes
involved in large projects like HP's Mobile Bristol and Proboscis' Urban
Tapestries, as well as in smaller projects like Sonic City and Passing
Glances, in order to get a sense of how new technologies unfold in
different contexts - including how they shape, and are shaped by,
everyday urban life.

I also teach undergraduate courses in science & technology studies and
urban studies, and in my spare time, I can be found at
purselipsquarejaw.org and spaceandculture.org. Actually, those are
probably the best places to look if anyone wants to know more about what
I do.

In any case, I'm looking forward to the symposium and to the coming
months' discussions!

Cheers,
Anne
