Let's be straight about this: the iDC list and Ars Electronica represent a 
small segment of what could/does embody a digital community. The art world 
generally has suffered from a narrowing of its terra cognita and the 
adventure into the digital realm promises to salve that issue. Engaging in 
the award granting process, for purposes other than self-aggrandizement, is 
reminiscent of Marlon Brando refusing an Academy Award.
